About Mark

Mark HeadshotAs a fifth generation Nebraskan, I was raised on the values of hard work, integrity, and service to the community. My family and I are proud to share those values with you, our neighbors who call the Bennington/NW Omaha community your home.

I was born and raised in Beatrice, NE, by parents who believed that opportunities for education could be found at work, school, and home. I started working full-time at the age of 12, carrying newspapers, bagging groceries, painting houses, and lending a hand on my grandfather’s farm. Having grown up in a smaller town, I understand that a community’s growth and success requires a contribution of service from its citizens – a lesson I learned well in high school as the student member to the Beatrice School Board, serving during a building bond issue election and superintendent search.

SoccerWorking full-time through my college studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I was the first in my family to graduate, earning a BS in Business Administration. After marrying Nicki, my high school sweetheart, and starting my career at a Kansas City-based telecommunications company, I returned to school and earned my MBA at Northwestern University.  In 2002, Nicki and I came home – to Nebraska – to live and to raise our family. We have two children, Macy and Spencer, who attend Bennington High School and Bennington Middle School.

Mark DeskMy career has presented me opportunities to lead successful businesses in the financial services, information security, and agribusiness industries as a financial executive. I enjoy the challenges that come with planning for strategic growth, managing competing priorities with limited budgets, and building high-performance teams – all challenges our growing school district must meet.  I’ve also enjoyed volunteering time at church and school, supporting local Boy Scouts as a merit badge counselor, and serving as a member of Bennington Public School’s Strategic Planning Committee.

Our children and our community have limitless potential.  It takes the hands, heads and hearts of many people to realize that potential.  Having served on the Board of Education since 2014, I appreciate the opportunity to work for you and with you as your representative.  My aim is to act as you would – striving for excellence as a faithful steward of our community’s resources.  Thank you for your vote on Tuesday, November 6th.
